Discover The Sea-Wolf: A psychological adventure thriller of the finest type (Annotated) by Jack London. Start reading today and explore ideas, insights, and experiences that stay with you.

Overview: A “psychological novel” written in bygone days, with a sophistication today’s “adventure stories” lack. The Sea-Wolf by Jack London is an example of classic fiction first published in 1904 in the United Kingdom. This edition is based on the 1917 publication.A true book of value, a classic that continues to live on across the ages. Books from yesteryear have an artistic quality and a permanence often lacking in books from the modern era. You are sure to love this work. A classic adventure story of the finest type. A Glimpse Inside Wolf Larsen ceased swearing as suddenly as he had begun. He relighted his cigar and glanced around. His eyes chanced upon the cook.“Well, Cooky?” he began, with a suaveness that was cold and of the temper of steel.“Yes, sir,” the cook eagerly interpolated, with appeasing and apologetic servility.“Don’t you think you’ve stretched that neck of yours just about enough? It’s unhealthy, you know. The mate’s gone, so I can’t afford to lose you too. You must be very, very careful of your health, Cooky. Understand?”His last word, in striking contrast with the smoothness of his previous utterance, snapped like the lash of a whip. The cook quailed under it.“Yes, sir,” was the meek reply, as the offending head disappeared into the galley. At this sweeping rebuke, which the cook had only pointed, the rest of the crew became uninterested and fell to work at one task or another. A number of men, however, who were lounging about a companion-way between the galley and hatch, and who did not seem to be sailors, continued talking in low tones with one another. These, I afterward learned, were the hunters, the men who shot the seals, and a very superior breed to common sailor-folk.“Johansen!” Wolf Larsen called out. A sailor stepped forward obediently. “Get your palm and needle and sew the beggar up. You’ll find some old canvas in the sail-locker. Make it do.” Synopsis The Sea-Wolf is a psychological thriller adventure story written by Jack London, the pen-name of John Griffith Chaney. It was originally published in London in 1904. It tells the story of Humphrey Van Weyden who survives a collision of ships in the ocean and comes under the spell of his rescuer, the enigmatic and dangerous ship's captain Wolf Larsen. Because of the success of London's earlier novel, The Call of the Wild, this novel sold out as soon as it was initially published. Wolf Larsen is widely regarded as one of the finest characterisations in all of literature. It also shows how the softer character of Humphrey Van Weyden toughens up after coming under the spell of Captain Larsen. Strong, well-written characters and a fast-paced storyline make this a gripping read from the first page to the last. "A beautiful reprint" from Wombrook Publishing. We have taken every step possible to ensure the original quality of this book has been maintained to the best standard. This means that the text in this edition is unedited and unchanged from the author’s original publication, preserving its earliest form for your enjoyment. This book is one of the best classic adventure novels of all time. Its words are arranged with such literary precision, in a way that is just not seen in psychological fiction from today. It was just alright. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

I was pleasantly surprised. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Will be looking for more from this author.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Pretty good overall. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. Still a good book.
