Nach dem Studium der Literatur und der Philosophie in Moskau, St. Petersburg und Berlin war er für zwei Jahre im Staatsdienst tätig. Danach lebte er als freier Schriftsteller und verfasste Erzählungen, Lyrik, Dramen, Komödien und Romane. Turgenjew gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter des russischen Realismus und zählt zu den großen europäischen Novellendichtern. Seine Novellistik bedeutet einen Höhepunkt der Gattung in der russischen Literatur.

I was pleasantly surprised. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. A solid 5/5 for me.

It was just alright. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

I liked it for the most part. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. Still a good book.

Really enjoyed this one. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
