Excerpt: Sir Edward Richard George "Ted" Heath, KG, MBE, PC (9 July 1916 - 17 July 2005) was a British Conservative politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (1970-74) and as Leader of the Conservative Party (1965-75). He was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1950-2001. Born in Broadstairs, Kent, Heath went on to study at Balliol College, Oxford. In 1938, Heath went to Spain to witness the ongoing civil war and then served in the British Army during the Second World War. Heath served as Chief Whip during the Suez Crisis of 1956 and formally became a cabinet member under Harold Macmillan as Minister of Labour (1959-60), before leading the unsuccessful negotiations to join the European Economic Community in 1962-63. In 1965, Heath defeated Enoch Powell and Reginald Maudling for leadership of the Conservative Party. He lost the 1966 General Election to incumbent Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson, but won the 1970 Election and became Prime Minister. Really enjoyed this one. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Would probably read it again at some point.
