Overview: ...Man's thirst for creating ever more devastating ways of crushing his fellow has reached new and unrepeatable depths. His Czechoslovakian grandfather had been just 20 when the Nazis had entered marching through Sudetenland, and on into Bohemia. The administrator’s order of surrender must have been like a muzzle to a snarling dog. The only alternative to save his motherland had been to flee it, leave it there like a napping bride at the mercy of a robber. Over the Krkonose peaks to Poland, later by ship to France. His initial battle experience had been concentrated in the skies above the collapsible Maginot Line. Onto Britain then, the last hope not just for Czechoslovakia but for a full continent. For a whole race. Waiting in the sunny English clouds for the emerging hornet's hum of the next Messerschmidt."He knocked off eleven in total," the police officer went on. "Eleven crying German mothers. A hundred too few, he'd always maintained. Not good enough."It had always delighted him, Veleslav revealed. The Second World War. The stories of foreign civilians like his grandfather, who'd discovered themselves in Britain during those years. And so, when the remains had been unearthed on the old camp of 212D, the following military ID tags, well, he'd made a vow not just to himself, but also to his grandfather's grave to do everything he could to see to the bottom of it."In 1940, my grandfather and the Italians rose on opposite sides. The old man always taught me that nationality is just a mask we choose to wear. Take it off; we're all just our mothers’ sons. Black, white, brown, communist, fascist,. Every man is our brother."

Finished it in a couple of days. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. A solid 5/5 for me.

I have mixed feelings about this one. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

A very satisfying read. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

It was just alright. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. It's fine if you have nothing else to read.

Good, but not quite perfect. It held my attention, even if a few things were a little predictable. Not bad at all.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.
