Overview: يتناول عبد الله العروي في كتابه هذا مفهوم العقل، وهو يتعرف لمسألة العقل في صورة محددة، ويوضح ذلك في المقدمة إذ يقول بأنه ومنذ زمن طويل تدور الأقوال بأن العقيدة الإسلامية مبنية على العقل، يقول ذلك العربي والعجمي، العريق في الإسلام وقريب العهد به، المتبحر وغير المتبحر في العلوم الدينية، يقال ذلك بالمقارنة مع الملاحظة من عقائد الغير، وخصوصاً أن هؤلاء أنفسهم يعترفون بأن العقيدة الإسلامية بسيطة معقولة، وإن استنتجوا من ذلك مالا يرضي المسلمين.ويشير الباحث هنا بأن المجتمعات الإسلامية، العربية والأعجمية، المستقلة بذاتها أو الخاضعة لحكم غيرها، هي بعيدة في سلوكها (العام والخاص) عن العقل، وبالتالي عن العقل والدين معاً، وهذا التناقض الملاحظ معترف به كما لو كان أمراً طبيعياً، غير مستبعد.وفي هذا الكتاب يتعرض لهذه النقطة بالذات ليحلل مفهومي العقل والعلم في هذا الإطار الذي هو إطار ممارستنا الثقافية اليومية، في محاولة فهم الهوة الساحقة الملاحظة بين ما نراه، حقاً أو باطلاً، من عقل في عقيدتنا، وما نراه، حقاً أو باطلاً، من لا عقل في سلوكنا، الخاص منه والعام، تتفرع عن المسألة الأصلية عند الباحث مسائل جزئية كثيرة، تدعوه الحاجة أحياناً إلى التوسع فيها، ليعود باستمرار إلى صلب الموضوع مستغنياً عن الإيرادات والشواهد والإحالات. وقد مثل ذلك مقاله في المفارقات، انطلاقاً من تلك التي تجلت لمحمد عبده فحار فيها، وهي لازالت تتجلى لنا ونُحار فيها بعده، وقد توصل الباحث في نشأتها، بعد سنوات من القراءة والتأمل والكتابة في مسائل مرتبطة بها، إلى قناعة يقدمها من خلال هذا الكتاب إلى القارئ.

Finished it in a couple of days. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Glad I picked this up.

I was pleasantly surprised. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. A solid 5/5 for me.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Will be looking for more from this author.
