Overview: Стефан Цанев (1936) е популярен български поет, драматург, публицист, автор на оригинални произведения за деца. През последните години се насочи и към белетристиката, като романът му „Мравки и богове“ е сред малкото творби на българските автори, предизвикали широк читателски интерес. В основата на успехите на Цанев е усетът му за злободневното и проблемното в живота, неговата близост до типовите нагласи и настроения. Към действителността и поставяните от нея въпроси авторът подхожда страстно и ангажирано, като полемиките му са публицистично интонирани. Естетическото при този автор е функция на етичното, романтичната или сатиричната патетика е в основата на риторичната организация на словото му. Това до известна степен изразява и характерните нагласи на голяма част от поколението на поетите от 60-те години на ХХ век, към което принадлежи Цанев. Сред тях той се отличава с по-ясна и категорична заявеност на опониращия дух, с по-малък интерес към сложните поетически форми и неразчитащи на широк отзвук експерименти. Втози смисъл той е своеобразен български аналог на някои от представителите на „естрадните“ автори в руската поезия от 60-те години на миналия век и най-вече на Евтушенко.
