Overview: मैं जब इस किताब को लिखने, अपनी पूरी नासमझी के साथ कश्मीर पहुँचा तो मुझे वहाँ सिर्फ़ सूखा पथरीला मैदान नज़र आया। जहाँ किसी भी तरह का लेखन संभव नहीं था। पर उन ऊबड़-खाबड़ रास्तों पर चलते हुए मैंने जिस भी पत्थर को पलटाया उसके नीचे मुझे जीवन दिखा, नमी और प्रेम। मैं कहीं भी बचकर नहीं चला हूँ। जो जैसा है में, जैसा जीवन मैं देखना चाहता हूँ, उसे भी दर्ज करता चलता हूँ। कभी लगता है कि मैं पिता के बारे में लिखना चाहता था और कश्मीर लिख दिया और जब कश्मीर लिखने बैठा तो पिता दिखाई दिए। मेरी सारी यादें वहीं हैं जब हम चीज़ों को छू सकते थे। मैं छू सकता था, अपने पिता को, उनकी खुरदुरी दाढ़ी को, घर की खिड़की को, खिड़की से दिख रहे आसमान को, बुख़ारी को, काँगड़ी को। अब इस बदलती दुनिया में वो सारी पुरानी चीज़ें मेरे हाथों से छूटती जा रही हैं। उन छूटती चीज़ों के साथ-साथ मुझे लगता है मैं ख़ुद को भी खोता चला जा रहा हूँ। आजकल जो भी नई चीज़ें छूता हूँ वो अपने परायेपन की धूल के साथ आती हैं। मैं जितनी भी धूल झाड़ूँ, मुझे अपनापन उन्हीं पुरानी चीज़ों में नज़र आता है। लेकिन जब उनके बारे में लिखने बैठता हूँ तो यक़ीन नहीं होता कि वो मेरे इसी जनम का हिस्सा थीं।—किताब की भूमिका से

I was pleasantly surprised. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. A solid 5/5 for me.

Really enjoyed this one. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
