Overview: Ideologi, derivasi kata ideologues yang muncul pasca Revolusi Perancis, memang telah kadung 'dinodai' oleh Napoleon, Marx dan Engels. Teori ideologi semacam inilah yang akan mampu melihat bahasa bukan sekedar sebagai struktur yang digunakan oleh komunikasi dan pertunjukkan, tapi sebagai fenomena sejarah sosial yang melibatkan konflik manusia, yang dari dalamnya jugalah konstelasi ideologi terkelindankan.Tak mengherankan karenanya, bila kritik ideologi-ideologi Thompson ini kemudian melibatkan aspek kekuasaan dan bahasa, hermeneutika, struktur percakapan, struktur gramatikal, sistem kepercayaan, proyeksi rasional, analisis wacana hingga kemelut rasionalisasi kebenaran. I liked it for the most part. It held my attention, even if a few things were a little predictable. Still a good book.
