Overview: It has been almost a year since the intrepid pair of Valerius Maximus and Marcellus Veronus battled the rebellious Frisii nation. Peace and tranquility have once again been restored in Germania. However, the Goddess Fortuna will not let them rest. It all starts again with the mysterious plague related deaths of two of the legates commanding legions along the Rhine. Strange, because there is no plague evident in Germania.At the request of a friend, they agree to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two generals. Glad someone recommended this to me. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Would probably read it again at some point.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. A solid 4 stars from me.

Pretty good overall. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. Not bad at all.

Finished it in a couple of days. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Would probably read it again at some point.

It was okay. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.
