Overview: Tribune Valerius Maximus and Centurion Marcellus Veronus, survivors of the Teutoburg Forest disaster in Legions of the Forest and decorated heroes in the subsequent reprisal campaign, Return of the Eagles, are back. It has been fifteen years since they donned the uniform of the legions. They are retired from military service and own a prosperous trading company on the shores of the Rhenus. Both men lead idyllic lives with their families and Germania is at peace. What could go wrong? Plenty.They are unexpectedly summoned to Rome to meet with the Emperor, Tiberius Caesar. Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. A solid 4 stars from me.

Finished it in a couple of days. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. A solid 5/5 for me.
