Los periodistas que se acercaban a verlos se quedaban estupefactos: salían a escena (y en ocasiones vestían así a diario) con trajes de astronauta o insólitos uniformes de trabajo y se movían como robots. Desde entonces, el Aviador Dro, cuyo nombre proviene de una ópera futurista, se convirtió en el brazo armado del tecno.Siguiendo a Devo, The Residents o Kraftwerk, compusieron temas que se convirtieron en himnos y odas a un futuro donde las máquinas colaborarían con los humanos o se sucederían encuentros con cíborgs y androides. A veces, entre alguna gran polémica, como la del clásico «Nuclear sí». Funcionaban, tanto antes como ahora, como un comité de músicos y científicos con nombres clave (en aquellos primeros pasos: Sincrotrón, Biovac N, 32-32, Multiplexor, Hombre Dinamo, Placa Tumbler y Derflex Tipo IARR), un think tank pop bajo la bandera rojinegra (el cruce perfecto entre Mayakovski y Bakunin, al que dedicaron su canción «Camarada Bakunin»). Participaron en el histórico Primer Simposium Tecno, que terminó abruptamente con la intervención de las fuerzas de seguridad. Son los años de la nueva ola y la emergente Movida, y el Aviador Dro asaltaba platós de televisión y escenarios haciendo gala de una violencia estética hasta entonces nunca vista, mientras lanzaban arengas a favor de los «sindicatos futuristas» y la «muerte del pasado» o redactaba virulentos manifiestos en defensa de la «violencia práctica» y su célebre «Revolución Dinámica», ideas que hoy siguen enarbolando. Crearon el término «tecno pop», cambiaron para siempre la escena musical en nuestro país siendo pioneros en el uso de sintetizadores y en llevar la bandera del futurismo a la música al idear canciones como si fuesen relatos en clave de ciencia ficción, maquinismo y utopías cibernéticas. En ocasiones, con un carácter sorprendentemente premonitorio al adelantar, muchos años antes, algunos avances tecnológicos.El universo del Aviador Dro es uno de los más ricos y, desde luego, longevos de nuestra escena musical y contracultural, llegando a crear grupos de apoyo formados por fans convertidos en Obreros Especializados en lugares como México, donde hoy son venerados.
