La sua estraneità canina mi aiutava a non dare niente per scontato. Poteva andare bene anche un marziano, ma dove trovarlo? Il mio cane è attento e partecipe: credo che «senta» i miei pensieri, in particolare se fanno rumore; e i miei pensieri sulla scuola ultimamente fanno dentro di me molto rumore...Ho provato a dirgli come ci sentiamo adesso noi che abbiamo molto amato la letteratura, e perché facciamo così fatica a «passare» i nostri amori ai ragazzi. Ho cercato di spiegargli che cosa sono i Progetti, i Recuperi, i Percorsi, i Debiti, gli Obiettivi, il Pof, tutte queste parole che fino a ieri appartenevano solo ad altri mondi – rispettivamente l’architettura, il diving, la topografia, l’arte militare – e che di colpo si riversano sulla scuola come un fiume in piena (ovvio che poi ci sembra di annegare). Mi sono anche chiesta: dove sono finiti lo studio, la lettura, il tema, la concentrazione, il tempo, la logica, gli apostrofi, la noia? Perché, proprio nell’Era dell’Autonomia, ci pare di aver perso completamente... l’autonomia? Per quale motivo dobbiamo imparare a insegnare, e insegnare a imparare, e a nessuno importa mai che cosa? Ho finito il libro con un’utopia che, per quanto bizzarra e piuttosto irrealizzabile, mi aiuta a fare ancora questo «mestiere che non c’è più».

Such a great read. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

It was okay. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
