Overview: Doris Jo Moskowitz' book about her father Moe Moskowitz, the founder of Moe's Books in Berkeley. Moe embodied radical politics, radical theater, and radical bookselling. He put fun into being an intellectual and helped democratize literacy. This colorful volume brings into view this larger-than-life character, his epic store, and his place in Berkeley's history. The book, designed by Gregoire Vion, includes over 150 images, posters of events, important happenings on Telegraph Ave in the turbulent 60s, and Moe with his trademark cigar. Also ephemera from Moe's riveting life before he came to Berkeley in 1955. The book will also contain an essay about Moe as Ubu Roi, the character that he played in the first American production at the Living Theater in New York City in 1945, and another explaining a customer's pivotal experience in the iconic store that Moe began building 1959.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

Pretty good overall. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. Enjoyable weekend read.
