Overview: Ice Candy Man is a heartbreaking story about the Partition of India and the 1947 upheaval that left countless people homeless, hurt and/or dead. This period of time has been documented from various viewpoints, but Sidhwa’s novel approaches the subject from the point-of-view of a little girl who lived through the troubles. I have mixed feelings about this one. Some parts were interesting, while others were a bit of a slog to get through. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

Really enjoyed this one. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Would probably read it again at some point.
