Overview: Cumhuriyet Dönemi Türk Edebiyatı’nın en güçlü kalemleri arasında yer alan Reşat Nuri Güntekin, çocukluğunun aşkı, hatta “sıtma”sı olan tiyatro ile etkin şekilde meşgul olmaya gençlik yıllarında başlar. Önce Zaman’da, ardından muhtelif gazete ve dergilerde tiyatro eleştirmenliği yapan yazar, 1910’lu yılların sonlarında yaptığı bazı umut kırıcı denemelerden sonra 1920 yılında ilk telif tiyatro eseri olan Hançer’i yayımlar. Bu ilk tecrübeyi Eski Rüya, Taş Parçası, Yaprak Dökümü, Eski Şarkı, Balıkesir Muhasebecisi, Tanrı Dağı Ziyafeti… gibi sayısı yirmiyi bulan diğer oyunları takip eder. Hâlen önemli bir kısmı eski yazı ile olan bu oyunlarla yetinmeyen yazar, Türk sahnesinin gelişmesi için aynı zamanda yirmiyi aşkın çeviri ve uyarlama yapar. Bunları temsil ettirdiği gibi yoğun bir şekilde Türk sahnesi ile de meşgul olur. Ne var ki oyunları ve sahne çalışmaları ile kendini âdeta Türk tiyatrosuna vakfetmiş olan Reşat Nuri Güntekin, bugüne kadar tiyatrocu yönüyle ne okurca fark edilmiş ne de akademik dünyada müstakil olarak ciddi bir çalışmaya konu olmuş ve incelenmiştir. Glad someone recommended this to me. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
