Dar când spun un cuplet şi văd oamenii că freamătă, simt că sunt viu şi că fac ceva folositor.”Născut pe 5 iulie 1880 la Vaslui, CONSTANTIN TĂNASE a arătat, de mic, talent de comedian. După ce vedea spectacole ale trupelor de teatru aflate în turneu, le juca în curtea casei sau în poiată, împreună cu o trupă alcătuită din câţiva prieteni. După terminarea liceului, a fost învăţător în Hârşoveni şi Curseşti, în apropiere de Vaslui. Deşi iubit de copii, a considerat că nu are vocaţie de învăţător şi s-a înrolat voluntar în armată, în Regimentul I Geniu din Bucureşti. A organizat primul teatru ostăşesc şi a ţinut spectacole pentru soldaţi în curtea regimentului. A intrat apoi la Conservator, la clasa de comedie, unde a studiat sub îndrumarea lui Constantin Nottara. A terminat studiile în 1905 şi a jucat în mai multe trupe de teatru particulare. A participat la campaniile armatei române din al Doilea Război Balcanic, apoi la Primul Război Mondial, în care a jucat spectacole pe front şi în spitale, pentru a ridica moralul trupelor şi al răniţilor. În 1919, împreună cu mai mulţi prieteni, a înfiinţat Teatrul de revistă Cărăbuş. Cupletele în care vorbea despre necazurile oamenilor simpli şi în care făcea glume pe seama tuturor politicienilor, curajul, spiritul de aventură, inteligenţa cu care şi-a condus teatrul l-au transformat în cel mai cunoscut şi mai iubit actor din România acelor vremuri. A preţuit foarte mult libertatea de a putea râde de oricine şi s-a confruntat atât cu cenzura dreptei, începând cu 1938, cât şi cu aceea a sovieticilor, imediat după 23 august 1944. A murit pe 29 august 1945, la şaizeci şi cinci de ani, în condiţii încă nu pe deplin elucidate.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. A solid 5/5 for me.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. A generous 3 stars.
