Overview: Many of the poor in the developing world earn their living on farms. To understand what it takes to alleviate poverty and hunger, it helps to visualize conditions, hopes, and successes of farm families. Hunger and Hope draws on the author’s extensive experience assisting farmers in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. It provides honest, sometimes humorous, but ultimately serious stories of rural poverty and efforts to pursue prosperity. Brady Deaton, Professor of Agricultural Economics and Chancellor Emeritus, University of Missouri says, “Hunger and Hope is highly readable and stimulating … Complex agricultural development problems are explained in ways that both lay and professional reader can understand, with sensitivity to cultural foundations and the reality of impoverished families.” George W. Norton is professor of agricultural and applied economics at Virginia Tech. He grew up on a dairy farm, worked with farmers in the Peace Corps, and assisted a Native American tribe with farm planning. He has taught agricultural development to college students, advised high-level agricultural officials, and conducted on-farm research in dozens of developing countries.

Really enjoyed this one. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. A solid 5/5 for me.

It was okay. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
