Overview: أزمة منتصف العمر الرائعة»، كتاب مترجم عن اللغة الإنجليزية للمؤلفة إيدا لوشان، وهي خبيرة تربية أميركية تحمل شهادة ماجيستير فى علم نفس الطفل، هدفها الأول محاولة إسعاد الناس وتعليمهم كيف يحيون حياة سعيدة فى مختلف مراحلها، مستعينة بخبراتها الشخصية وخبرات المحيطين بها من جميع الأعمار وتجاربهم الحياتية. وقد أخذت كل ذلك وصاغته بطريقة أقرب إلى السيرة الذاتية التي يمكن أن تأخذ طابع الرواية بطريقة غير مباشرة. وفي تقديمه للكتاب الصادر حديثاً عن مركز الأهرام للنشر والترجمة والتوزيع بترجمة سهير صبري، يقول خبير الصحة النفسية المصري الدكتور يحيى الرخاوي: «يتناول الكتاب مرحلة منتصف العمر، وهي مرحلة مهمة للغاية في حياة الإنسان، بل تعد أهم مراحل العمر وأطولها، ولكن على الرغم من أهميتها إلا أنها مرحلة مظلومة من حيث اهتمام الإنسان بها، ويرجع ذلك لاقتناع البعض بأنها مرحلة الفتوة والنضج، فهي لا تحتاج إلى التنبه لتجنب مشاكلها والانتباه لنقاط ضعفها، فتحاول المؤلفة في هذا الكتاب تغيير هذه النظرة». ووفقًا للرخاوي فإن تلك المرحلة، على الرغم من اكتمال النضج فيها إلا أن الإنسان قد ينهمك خلالها حتى ينسى أمرين أساسيين، أولهما أن يتمتع بهذه المرحلة في حد ذاتها لذاتها، وثانيهما، أن يدخر في هذه المرحلة القوة التي تعينه على استكمال حياته في المرحلة التالية من عمره «مرحلة الشيخوخة» والتي تكون أكثر ضعفًا ووهنًا. تناول الكتاب، ربما من منطلق السيرة الذاتية، مشاكل المرأة بوجه خاص في هذه المرحلة من العمر، خاصة أنها المرحلة التي ينقطع فيها الطمث وينتهي دور المرأة كمعمل تفريغ للأطفال، وهو ما كان يسمى، إهانة وجهلاً، سن اليأس. وقد رفعت الكاتبة هذا الوشم الغبي عن هذه السن وأعادت للمرأة دورها الإنساني والإبداعي والوجداني الممتد ما امتدت بها الحياة، والذي يمكن أن تنضج أشهى ثماره في هذه المرحلة «منتصف العمر».

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. It's fine if you have nothing else to read.
