Overview: This book, by a leading exponent of the postmodern school of legal theory, falls naturally into three parts. The first part advances a critique of the major theories of human rights synthesizing the main schools of thought on human rights as well as critics of the dominant liberal tradition. The second part of the book discusses the work of Derrida, Levinas, Rorty, and Lyotard, and suggests that none of them has yet produced a workable theory of rights. In the final part the author develops a constructive notion of ethical and just legal practice which both appropriates and is critical of the dominant liberal tradition. Elaborating his own practical and eclectic theory of rights, the author uses case studies of gay and lesbian rights and refugee rights to develops a theory derived from current critical theory which helps evaluate its appropriateness for human rights discourse and practice in the twenty-first century.

A very satisfying read. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Would probably read it again at some point.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Worth the time and money.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
