Overview: Tarjei Vesaas gav ut i alt fire novellesamlingar: Klokka i haugen (1929), Leiret og hjulet (1936), Vindane (1952) og Ein vakker dag (1959). Vesaas publiserte altså noveller gjennom 30 år, på ulike stadium av forfattarskapen, og dette spennet blir også spegla i denne boka. Frå den første samlinga, Klokka i haugen, tok Vesaas berre med to av sju noveller då han sjølv redigerte Noveller i samling (1964), mellom dei den sterke «Signe Ton». I ei seinare utgåve kom det med fleire. I denne utgåva er alle novellene i alle samlingane tekne med. Novellekunstnaren Vesaas hadde funne si form då han sju år seinare gav ut Leiret og hjulet. Denne samlinga inneheld kjende noveller som «Aldri fortelje det» og «21 år». Sistnemnde korthistorie vart filma av René Bjerke i 1990, og i 1990 filma same regissør novella «Det rare» frå Vindane. Samlinga Vindane står i dag som eit av høgdepunkta i Vesaas’ forfattarskap, uansett sjanger. Det var med denne boka han vann Venezia-prisen i 1953 - og fekk dermed det store internasjonale gjennombrotet. Vesaas skreiv mange av sine beste bøker i 1960-åra. Den siste novellesamlinga hans, Ein vakker dag, kom i denne perioden. Den inneheld meisternoveller som «Hesten frå Hogget», «G for Gudny» og «Det snør og snør».

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Glad I picked this up.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Really enjoyed this one. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Would probably read it again at some point.

I was pleasantly surprised. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Would probably read it again at some point.

An average read for me. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. It's fine if you have nothing else to read.
