Overview: Subtext: artists and writing was produced on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name, presented by un Projects, at West Space, Melbourne, 4–19 February 2011. The project examinded the diversity of form and the significance of writing in art. Six artists were invited to participate, with works that suggest the wealth of ways in which text can be an integral part of the creative process. The exhibition featured works by Vernon Ah Kee, Pablo Helguera, Lily Hibberd, Helen Johnson, Darren Sylvester and Tris Vonna-Michell. The publication, co-published with un Projects, features newly commissioned essays by Justin Clemens and Rosemary Forde, as well as artists’ pages and documentation of the exhibition.

Surpllus is a writer and avid reader based in the Pacific Northwest. Before pursuing writing full-time, they spent over a decade working in education. When not working on their next book, Surpllus can usually be found hiking with their dog or trying out new coffee shops in their neighborhood.

A very satisfying read. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Pretty good overall. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. A solid 4 stars from me.

A solid read. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Glad I picked this up.
