Overview: Utan Nina Hemmingsson skulle den svenska så kallade serierevolutionen aldrig ägt rum. "Det är svårt att vara Elvis i Uppsala" är ett urval av de tecknade serier som Nina Hemmingsson publicerat från debuten 2004 fram till idag. Boken inleds med serierna från debuten "Hjälp!", som varit utgiven i snart tio år. "Jag är din flickvän nu" kom 2006 och blev Nina Hemmingssons stora genombrott, här återfinner vi de serier som var med där. För övrigt består denna samling av över 50 sidor nytecknade serier som aldrig tidigare varit i bokform.Den första serien var "Det är svårt att var Elvis i Uppsala" som handlar om två systrar som växer upp i Uppsala. Ett av huvudpersonens första minnen är att den äldre systern visar tidningens stora rubrik: "Elvis är död". Systrarna blir besatta av Elvis, de lyssnar på musiken och börjar röra sig och prata som Elvis. Alla deras lekar färgas under lång tid framöver av Elvis. Arton år senare kommer huvudpersonen tillbaka till Uppsala och ser en man som ligger på gatan. När hon vill hjälpa honom hem och frågar var han bor svarar han: "Memphis? Tennesse?"Vidare möter vi här serierna "Jag var en riktig häst-tjej", som beskriver meningen med att hålla på med hästar trots en tyrannisk ridlärare. "En hårdings bekännelser" om viljan att inte vara som alla andra. "Jag skulle vilja göra en anmälan" om en terapeut som dyker upp ur terapilådan. Det är serier som inte liknar något annat och som ofta med nästan surrealistiska dialoger på ett naket och avskalat sätt beskriver våra relationer, våra tankar och vår vardag.

I was pleasantly surprised. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Will be looking for more from this author.

Pretty good overall. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Still a good book.
