Overview: Buku ini memaparkan sejarah Madrasah Idrisiah Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, Perak dan peranannya dalam pembentukan keperibadian masyarakat Melayu Islam setempat.Penubuhan madrasah ini mengikut sistem pengajian agama di Mekah. Kalau dibandingkan dengan sistem pendidikan pondok, sistem pendidikan madrasah yang diamalkan jauh lebih sistematik khususnya dari segi organisasi dan pentadbirannya.Sistem madrasah mempunyai ciri-ciri persamaan dengan sistem vernakular atau sistem sekolah Inggeris. Malah waktu itu sistem pendidikan di Madrasah Idrisiah sudah memiliki sukatan pelajaran yang menyeluruh dalam semua bidang dan ianya mengandungi ilmu yang dikupas secara mendalam.Malah buku ini juga cuba membuktikan peranan para umarak atau sultan-sultan dalam proses perkembangan ilmu Islam dalam masyarakat Melayu Islam. Dengan restu dan komitmen mereka, madrasah ini terbina dan terlaksana dengan jayanya. Justeru itu madrasah Idrisiah dapat berperanan dengan baik kerana faktor sokongan, sumber kewangan dan restu penaung agama ngeri perak yang perihatin terhadap perkembangan semasa tentang Islam. Lebih-lebih lagi pembinaan dan perkembangan madrasah ini adalah dalam zaman penjajahan British. Dengan komitmen yang tinggi yang ditunjukkan oleh sultan yang memerintah negeri Perak maka beberapa ulama besar telah dijemput untuk menerajui institusi agama ini dan memacunya ke arah kecemerlangan.Peranan dan sumbangan Madrasah Idrisiah Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, Perak tidak dapat dilupakan sama sekali. Glad someone recommended this to me. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Worth the time and money.
